< Cycling from Camden to Cardiff! September 2009 >

On 1st-2nd September Ian Williams & Gildas Braine & Rob Partridge cycled from Camden to the UK School Games in Cardiff in an effort to raise funds to enable Camden Fencing Club's most talented kids to compete internationally this coming season. Please see www.camdentocardiff.co.uk for all the details.

< Marinko Stepinac >

As many of you know Marinko recently qualified as a nurse. Unfortunately he has decided to take up a nursing post full time and will therefore no longer be able to coach at the club. He has worked at Scimitar since it's beginning three years ago, and we would like to take this opportunity to thank him for all his hard work and wish him every success with his nursing career. < Great Start to the Season 2008-09 >

The season has started well for Scimitar fencers. The first competition of the year, and one of the largest ever UK Sabre tournaments, the Hamlet Open (Sat 6th Sep), proved very successful for our club. It was a very tough event and several fencers achieved personal best results. Top eight placings went to:

< Womens >
Jo Hutchison - 1st

< Mens >
Neil Hutchison - 1st
Julian Rose - 3rd

This was the first time that the club has won both mens and womens titles at the same competition. The following day Joe Nickel achieved 8th place at the Essex Open, which rounded off an excellent weekend for him. The links to both competitions' results are in Competition Results 2008-09.

< Senior British Championships 2008 >

Scimitar had another very successful British Championships on 12-13 July in Sheffield. A number of fencers achieved personal bests and top 8 placings were achieved by Jo Hutchison - 3rd, Neil Hutchison - 5th, and Julian Rose - 7th. In the team events, our Womens A team won gold, beating Brentwood 45-43 in a thrilling final. In another "nail biting" match, our Mens A team were narrowly beaten into 2nd place by Lazlos 43-45. Well done everybody !!
