Scimitar Fencing Club is known for its friendly and social atmosphere. After a hard night training at sabre, club members can be found discussing the evening's pursuits in the local public house:

• Tuesday – "The Porchester" (88 Bishop's Bridge Road, London W2 5AA).

• Thursday – "Bar Lorca" (Fortess Road, Tufnell Park, London) and "The Lord Palmerston" (Dartmouth Park Hill, Tufnell Park, London).

Recent Activities

Christmas Party

A fabulous evening was enjoyed by all before Christmas at the Lord Palmerston pub (Tufnell Park). During dinner the annual awards were presented.

The winners of the 2009 SCIMITAR AWARDS trophies were:

• Most Improved - Murray Morrison
• Most Stylish - Murray Morrison
• Best Mentor - shared, equal votes: Julian Rose, Gildas Braine and some chap called Ian !!
• Most damage done - Barry Coulter

Autumn Social

The votes are now in and counted, and the winning activity for the autumn social was:

Bowling at Allstar Lanes in Brick Lane.

Bragging rights were awarded afterwards (over a pint or two) to:

• Best Bowler: Jake Rowley
• Most Improved Bowler: Nicola Gathercole

Summer Social

The inaugural Scimitar summer social was a great success – thanks to all those that came. The foodstuffs were fantastic, clearly no-one’s missed their vocation as a professional rounders player (except possibly Brother Fairhead), and sport was the overall winner. By popular demand, next year’s event will also contain an egg-and-spoon-race and sack race.
